titleStart from an existing Quicken Windows file

If you purchased Quicken from the Mac App Store, see instead the "Special Instructions for Mac App Store Customers" help topic.

  1. Before starting, review the pre-conversion task.
  2. In Quicken, choose File > New to create a new Quicken data file.
  3. Select Start from a Quicken for Windows file.
  4. Set your mobile and web sync preference (you can change this at any time).
  5. Select your existing Quicken Windows (.QDF) file when prompted.
    • If you have a large data file, this could take some time. Please do not quit Quicken until the file conversion is complete.
  6. After these steps, your Quicken Windows data file will be converted and you will see the Overview view. All of your accounts will be listed in the sidebar.

titleStart from an existing Quicken Windows file (Special instructions for Mac App Store customers)

If you purchased Quicken from the Mac App Store, you will need to download a separate File Conversion Utility on your Windows computer in order to complete the Quicken Windows to Quicken Mac conversion process. (If you purchased from any other source, you do not need this separate utility. See instead the instruction above.)
To download the conversion utility and for detailed instructions go to: Converting Your Data (Quicken for Mac).

  1. Before starting, ensure that you have performed the pre-conversion task.
  2. Download the File Conversion Utility tool on your Windows computer (get it at: Converting Your Data (Quicken for Mac).
  3. Unzip and install the File Conversion Utility on your Windows computer
  4. Select your existing existing Quicken Windows (.QDF) file when prompted.
  5. A new .QXF file will be created. Copy the .QXF file to your Mac
  6. In Quicken, choose File > New to create a new Quicken data file.
  7. Select Start from a Quicken Windows File.
  8. Set your mobile and web sync preference (you can change this at any time).
  9. Select the .QXF file you created using the File Conversion Utility mentioned above.
    • If you have a large data file, this could take some time. Please do not quit Quicken Mac the file conversion is complete.
  10. After these steps, your Quicken Windows data file will be converted and you will see the Overview view. All of your accounts will be listed in the sidebar.
